On Thursday, March 10, 2015 the Oakland Chapter of the National Honor Society held its Induction Ceremony for new members in the Lake Crest library. Twelve junior students were selected for membership by a faculty council, on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The new inductees are: Noah Butler, Shelton Cash, Sidney Edwards, Alexandra Gill, BayLeigh Grimes, Carey Hendrix, Zachary Knofsky, Joshua Padgett, Ashley Patton, Rebecca Reavley, Andrea Stiff, and Sophia Turner. They join senior members: Seth Ethington, Michael Hudson, Johnna Roberts, Emily Royer, and Vanessa Zimmerman.
Senior NHS President Vanessa Zimmerman moderated the evening, which began with a speech from former Oakland High School teacher and NHS sponsor Greta Henry. She encouraged students to consider the four tenants of NHS and continue to grow as members of NHS. Following Mrs. Henry’s speech, the new members were inducted into the Oakland Chapter of the National Honor Society. The received certificates and cards as tokens of their membership.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, new members were congratulated by family, faculty, administration, and friends. Delicious refreshments were provided by the FCS food service class and Mrs. Pendergast-White.
